Gustavo Germán Gómez

CSIC Scientific Researcher
gustavo.gomez@csic.es
Tel: (+34) 963544777

Gustavo is Investigador Cientifico (CSIC) at the Institute for Integrative Systems Biology (I2SysBio) joined institute of the CSIC – University of Valencia.

He is Director of the Department of Molecular Interactions and Regulation of the I2SysBio and Group leader of the ncRNA-Lab.

Although he has extensive experience in the study of viral and sub-viral plant pathogens, his line of research in recent years has focused on the characterization of the regulatory mechanisms mediated by non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) in plants.

The main scientific objective of the group is to elucidate the stress response processes that may be modulated by this type of RNAs, with special attention to those events related to the alteration of the epigenetic landscape of the plant.

Postdoctoral Researchers

Francesca Longo

Plant-PREDICTOR Project
francesca.longo@csic.es
Tel: (+34) 963543996

Francesca studied Biology and did her M.Sc. and PhD in Biology at the “Roma Tre” University of Italy. She joined the group in 2022.

Currently, at the ncRNAlab she is developing a portable device (based in micro-fluidic technology) for the rapid detection and easy detection of the damage associated to biotic and abiotic stresses in crops.

María Carmen Herranz Gordo

BotVid-SENSOR Project
mc.herranz@csic.es
Tel: (+34) 963543996

Mari Carmen holds the PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Valencia.

She joined the group in 2023. She has an extensive experience in the study of the molecular mechanisms that govern virus-plant interactions.

Her current research focuses on studying the host-viroid interaction and the development of portable device (based in micro-fluidic technology) for the rapid detection of B. cinerea in grapevine.

PhD Students

Julia Corell Sierra

Predoctoral contract, GVA (ACIF)
julia.corell@csic.es
Tel: (+34) 963544783

Julia holds a BS in Biology from the University of Valencia and a MSc in Bioinformatics from the same university.

She joined the group in 2022. Her current research focuses on studying the roles of tRNA fragments in plant stress regulation, especially in agronomically important crops, by integrating experimental and computational approaches.

Gabriela Hernández Azurdia

Predoctoral contract, GVA (ACIF)
gabriela.hernandez@csic.es
Tel: (+34) 963544783

Gabriela studied Pharmaceutical Chemistry at University of San Carlos of Guatemala and did her in Biomedical Research at University of Valladolid.

She obtained a Generalitat Valenciana scholarship (2021) for pursuing her PhD at the Non-coding RNA Laboratory.

Her interests in the lab are related to determining regulatory networks of response to stress mediated by miRNAs.

Their work is predominantly focused in the “in vivo” rewiring of miRNA-mediated regulatory pathways in cucurbits.

Pascual Villalba Bermell

Predoctoral contract, AEI
pascual.villalba@csic.es
Tel: (+34) 963544783

Pascual obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology from the Universidad Politecnica de Valencia, followed by a Master’s degree in Bioinformatics at the Universidad de Valencia.

He joined the group in 2021 and is currently developing his PhD in the ncRNAlab as a bioinformatician enrolled in the biotechnology program at the Universidad Politecnica de Valencia.

His work is focused on the search for stress reactive lncRNAs in cucurbitaceae family, as well as the construction of pipelines for their detection.

Antonio González Sánchez

Predoctoral contract
antonio.gonzalez.sanchez@csic.es
Tel: (+34) 963544783

Antonio obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Master’s degree in Biotechnology from the University of Alicante. Subsequently, he earned an MSc in Bioinformatics at the University of Valencia.

He joined the group in 2023 and is currently working on computationally analyzing the global stress response mediated by miRNAs in plants, using data mainly sourced from public repositories.

Samanta Gissela Silva Valencia

Predoctoral contract, GVA (GRISOLÍA)
samanta.silva@csic.es
Tel: (+34) 963544783

Samanta studied Agroindustrial Engineering at National Polytechnic School (EPN) of Ecuador and did her Msc.in Plant Molecular and Cellular Biotechnology at Universitat Politècnica de València.

She joined the group in 2023 to develop her PhD in the ncRNAlab, enrolled in the biotechnology program at the Universitat Politècnica de València with the Santiago Grisolia scholarship from Generalitat Valenciana (2023).

Miguel Ruiz Ibáñez

Predoctoral contract
m.ruiz.ibanez@csic.es
Tel: (+34) 963544783

Miguel holds a BSc. in Biotechnology from the Universitat de València. He pursued further studies, earning MSc. in Quality and Food Safety, as well as Virology.

During his Virology master’s, Miguel joined the group through the JAE Intro scholarship (CSIC), focusing on the study of Hop Stunt viroid and their quasi-species.
